Publication Ethics Responsibilities and Policies

Journal and Editorial

Manuscripts submitted to Journal of International Scholarship (JIS) are evaluated based on their merit. Legal considerations such as copyright, libel, plagiarism, and ethical standards are also considered. The journal maintains an open editorial policy. Publication does not constitute endorsement of any views or conclusions expressed by authors. Neither the journal nor its editors, staff, reviewers or publisher assume responsibility for offensive, defamatory, plagiarized, or incorrect content.

Reviewers are responsible for objectively evaluating the merits of scholarship, not personal judgements or biases. Reviewers should acknowledge any conflicts of interests and recuse themselves if such conflicts are present. Reviewers are asked to review materials promptly. All submitted manuscripts as treated as confidential documents.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work is an original contribution and has not been published elsewhere either wholly or partially. Authors are responsible for obtaining copyright permission for any third-party material included in the manuscript.

JIS requires that research involving human participants be conducted in accordance with recognized ethical standards, including the Declaration of Helsinki. Authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained where applicable and that participant privacy, confidentiality, and anonymity were adequately protected. When required, studies should indicate approval by an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board. Research involving animals must comply with applicable institutional, national, and international guidelines for the ethical treatment and welfare of animals.

Authors should divulge potential conflicts of interest. Allegations of misconduct, including plagiarism or data fabrication, will be investigated and addressed according to standard academic procedures, which could result in retraction of the article (with no refunds of publication fees).

In cases where large language models (LLMs) or generative AI (artificial intelligence) are used, authors are advised to be cautious and follow best practices. AI cannot be listed as authors. When AI is used in manuscript development or analyses this should be noted in either the Methods or Acknowledgement sections. Authors should always closely review and take full responsibility for any AI generated or edited material. Particularly, double check any AI generated references as LLM's have been known to fabricate or combine sources.

Authors retain copyright of their work under the Creative Commons Attribution License (4.0) but license the journal to publish, distribute, and archive the article. Authors are strongly encouraged to post their work in repositories or other websites with acknowledgement of its publication in this journal.
